We live in a country governed by the rule of law and open society with values such as freedom and solidarity

"Our government made a promise to the people when we were elected—to create a normal country again. This meant establishing a functioning rule of law, democracy, and an open society. Today, on the 1st anniversary of our government, we can proudly say that we have delivered on that promise," stated Prime Minister Robert Golob during the government's anniversary celebration. Joined by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister Tanja Fajon and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister Luka Mesec, they reflected on the achievements of the government thus far.

Prime Minister Golob emphasized the importance of the rule of law and cited the case of RTV, where the government relinquished its political influence over public media by drafting a law in collaboration with civil society. Although this decision may have initially posed challenges for the government, Golob believes that it will benefit Slovenia in the long run.

Furthermore, Golob highlighted the government's success in addressing crises, particularly the energy crisis. Slovenia's assertive policies influenced the European Union's approach to tackling the crisis, resulting in lower electricity prices compared to other European countries such as Germany and Croatia.

The prime minister also commended the government's swift response to natural disasters, including drought and fires. Measures were taken to aid affected communities, and firefighting aircraft were acquired to enhance firefighting capabilities in the country.

Golob expressed confidence that Slovenia has significantly strengthened its position among EU member states and is now "stronger than ever." He believes this will be evident in the upcoming vote for non-permanent membership of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).

Deputy Prime Minister Tanja Fajon focused on the government's efforts to address key societal issues, such as public health, education, sustainable pensions, and youth-oriented housing policy. She emphasized the importance of respectful dialogue with experts and civil society, which has become a fundamental aspect of Slovenian society under the current government.

Fajon also mentioned the government's initiatives to alleviate the energy crisis, support the economy, and combat inflation. Additionally, she highlighted the government's achievements in justice, including the withdrawal of lawsuits against individuals related to the costs of police work during the COVID-19 pandemic and improvements in the position of vulnerable groups in the legal system.

With the upcoming vote on Slovenia's candidacy for the UN Security Council membership, Fajon remained cautiously optimistic and expressed gratitude to all those who supported the project.

Deputy Prime Minister Luka Mesec emphasized the government's commitment to freedom and solidarity. He stated that the government aims to build a society free of fear and where no one is left behind, emphasizing the importance of housing policy, long-term care, and economic democracy.

Mesec highlighted various accomplishments, such as increasing the minimum wage, improving employment rates, and addressing the rights of employees. He also mentioned important social reforms, including the recognition of same-sex marriage and adoption rights for same-sex couples.

In addition to the government's focus on societal issues, Mesec mentioned cultural projects, such as the renovation of the Slovenian National Drama Theatre and the support provided to self-employed individuals in the cultural sector. He reiterated the government's commitment to media freedom.

The government's first year in office was marked by several significant achievements. They implemented measures to alleviate the energy crisis, reduce energy prices for households, support businesses, and mitigate economic damage caused by natural disasters. The government also worked on achieving balanced public finances, implementing key reforms in healthcare, pensions, education, and the salary system. They allocated funds to improve access to drinking water, support innovation and integration between business and science, and address labor market challenges. The government's efforts aimed to enhance welfare, raise the quality of life, and create a more inclusive society.
