State Secretary Štucin receives Deputy Minister of Justice of Ukraine

Strengthening Commitment to Justice and Accountability: Slovenia and Ukraine's Meeting on War Crimes

During the ongoing diplomatic conference for the adoption of the MLA Convention in Ljubljana, State Secretary Marko Štucin held a meeting with Ukraine's Deputy Minister of Justice, Iryna Mudra, to discuss the crucial matter of ensuring accountability for war crimes.
State Secretary Štucin expressed unwavering support for Ukraine, emphasizing Slovenia's commitment to upholding its sovereignty and territorial integrity. He conveyed solidarity with the Ukrainian people and reiterated the significant attention Slovenia devotes to ensuring accountability for war crimes. The State Secretary underscored the paramount importance of developing and strengthening international criminal justice mechanisms, including the establishment of a special court to address matters related to the aggression in Ukraine.
Furthermore, State Secretary Štucin commended the establishment of a Register of Damage under the Council of Europe, of which Slovenia is a member. He extended an offer of expert assistance and an exchange of experiences to Ukraine, aiming to provide valuable support in organizing a diplomatic conference that could aid Ukraine's efforts in establishing a comprehensive compensation mechanism.
Deputy Minister of Justice Mudra provided State Secretary Štucin with a briefing on the initiatives and endeavors undertaken by Ukraine to ensure full accountability of the Russian Federation for the crimes committed. She expressed gratitude to Slovenia for its assistance and support throughout Ukraine's endeavors and offered congratulations on the successful MLA Diplomatic Conference.
The meeting between State Secretary Štucin and Deputy Minister Mudra reaffirmed the shared commitment of Slovenia and Ukraine to promote justice, accountability, and the protection of human rights in the face of war crimes.
