Andean Mountain Initiative delegation visiting Slovenia.

A delegation from the Andean Mountain Initiative is currently on a study visit to Slovenia, following an invitation from the Alpine Convention during the Slovenian presidency. The purpose of the visit is to extend the principles of the Alpine Convention to the seven countries of the Andean Mountain Range.
The delegation, consisting of representatives from Colombia, Peru, and the Secretariat of the Initiative (Condesan), began their visit at the Ministry of Natural Resources and Spatial Planning. There, they met with Mag. Emil Ferjančič, the Chair of the Permanent Committee of the Alpine Conference, who outlined the Slovenian presidency's priorities for the next two years. The discussion also touched upon the significance of international cooperation in environmental matters.
Expressing his satisfaction with the meeting, Mag. Emil Ferjančič stated, "I am delighted to have hosted the Andean delegation and to see the Alpine Convention inspiring other mountain organizations worldwide to connect. We had productive discussions with the Andean panel regarding the importance of collective action at the international level. We identified commonalities and look forward to continuing our collaboration, not only at the ministry level but also involving field experts, parks, and other stakeholders active in mountain regions."
During their visit, the Andean delegation visited the Alpine Convention Info Point at the Slovenian Alpine Museum in Mojstrana and participated in an expert panel discussion at the Triglav National Park Center. Topics of discussion included climate change, biodiversity, and their management in different countries and regions. Additionally, the Andean delegation will attend the inaugural meeting of the Permanent Committee of the Alpine Conference under the Slovenian presidency, scheduled for June 21 and 22, 2023, in Radovljica.
